Zelensky Voices Openness to Three-Way Summit
(MENAFN) Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky expressed willingness to participate in a proposed high-level meeting involving Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, should he be formally invited.
The potential summit is set to take place in Hungary, where the U.S. and Russian presidents revealed on Thursday their intention to engage in discussions concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, possibly within the next few weeks.
In remarks shared with the press on Monday, Zelensky stated: "If it is an invitation in a format where we meet as three or, as it's called, shuttle diplomacy… then in one format or another, we will agree."
His comments suggest an openness to dialogue under flexible conditions.
At the same time, reports from media outlets indicated that Zelensky’s recent meeting with Trump at the White House may have turned contentious.
Described as a "shouting match," the encounter reportedly involved pressure from the American delegation for Ukraine to concede to Russian demands in order to bring the war to a close.
During his initial press conference following the meeting, Zelensky maintained a cautious tone but signaled significant differences between the two camps.
He characterized the discussion as candid and emphasized that his chief objective remains a fair resolution, rather than a hasty end to hostilities.
Zelensky also took aim at Hungary as a venue for the potential Trump-Putin talks, criticizing Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s capacity to "do anything positive for Ukrainians or even provide a balanced contribution."
This pointed remark underscores the Ukrainian president’s skepticism about the host nation's neutrality in the matter.
