UK Tightens Energy Sanctions on Russian Oil Giants
(MENAFN) The United Kingdom has intensified its energy-related restrictions on Russia's top oil producers, Lukoil and Rosneft, by extending sanctions to include their international collaborators.
This development was detailed in an official release on the British government's website on Wednesday.
The broadened measures involve the freezing of assets and limitations on services and transportation connected to the two companies.
Lukoil and Rosneft were already subject to existing sector-specific sanctions. As part of the new actions, any ships that are owned, operated, leased, or managed by Rosneft are now forbidden from accessing UK ports.
Furthermore, any aircraft affiliated with the company are restricted from flying over or landing in British territory.
“At the same time, we are ramping up pressure on companies in third countries, including India and China, that continue to facilitate getting Russian oil onto global markets,” stated British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves during a visit to the United States, as reported by a news agency.
Among the newly sanctioned entities is Nayara Energy, a private Indo-Russian corporation in which Rosneft owns a 49% interest.
The updated list also includes National Pipeline Group Beihai Liquefied Natural Gas, a Chinese firm cited for its connections to vessels already under UK sanctions.
Additionally, the sanctions now cover 51 more oil tankers described in the document as part of a Russian “shadow fleet” used for transporting crude oil.
