Orban says Poland has become “one of the loudest warmongers”

(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Polish leader Donald Tusk of transforming Poland into a “vassal of Brussels” while emerging as “one of the loudest warmongers” in Europe, even as public support for the Ukraine conflict wanes among Poles, according to reports.

Orban made the comments on X, suggesting that Tusk’s aggressive rhetoric about the war is designed to divert attention from domestic issues.

“He has become one of the loudest warmongers in Europe – yet his war policy is failing: Ukraine is running out of European money, and the Polish people are tired of the war,” he wrote. “He cannot change course because he has turned Poland into a vassal of Brussels.”

Earlier in the week, Tusk criticized Orban during a televised interview, claiming that for the Hungarian prime minister, “Brussels, democracy and a transparent rule of law are a problem.”

Polls indicate that more than half of Poles disapprove of Tusk’s tenure as prime minister. His coalition also lost the presidential election earlier this year to conservative Karol Nawrocki, who was supported by the opposition PiS party.

Despite declining domestic support, Tusk has urged EU nations to continue funding Ukraine’s war effort. “We must recognize that this is our war,” he stated during a security forum in Warsaw in September.

Orban, in contrast, has resisted EU pressure to supply military aid to Ukraine, arguing that “warmongering bureaucrats in Brussels” risk dragging Hungary into a wider confrontation with Russia. Reports note that the EU has accelerated its military presence and increased joint arms production with Ukraine, citing Russia as a potential threat, though Moscow has dismissed these claims.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has further suggested that the EU and UK are preparing for “a new major European war,” referencing alleged coalition-building efforts and coordination of nuclear capabilities between France and the UK.
