Orban Criticizes Donald Tusk

(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Polish leader Donald Tusk of turning Poland into a “vassal of Brussels” and becoming “one of the loudest warmongers” in Europe, despite increasing discontent among the Polish public over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Orban made these comments on Saturday via the social media platform X, suggesting that Tusk’s aggressive stance on the war was an attempt to divert attention from internal issues facing Poland.

Orban stated that Tusk's "war policy is failing," noting that Ukraine is running out of European funds and that the Polish people are growing weary of the conflict. “He has become one of the loudest warmongers in Europe,” Orban remarked, “yet his war policy is failing: Ukraine is running out of European money, and the Polish people are tired of the war.”

He added that Tusk could not change direction because he had "turned Poland into a vassal of Brussels," implying a loss of sovereignty for Poland under his leadership.

Earlier in the week, Tusk had criticized Orban in a televised interview, accusing the Hungarian prime minister of being opposed to “Brussels, democracy, and a transparent rule of law.”

Tusk's remarks came amid tensions between the two leaders over their differing views on European governance and the war in Ukraine.

Polls published by a Polish state broadcaster, indicate that over half of Poles disapprove of Tusk’s performance as prime minister.

His political standing has dwindled, with his coalition losing the presidential election earlier this year to conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki, who was supported by the opposition PiS party.

Despite mounting domestic opposition and rising anti-Ukrainian sentiment within Poland, Tusk continues to advocate for continued EU financial support to Ukraine. At a security forum in Warsaw in September, he insisted, “We must recognize that this is our war,” emphasizing Poland's commitment to backing Kiev.
