US Attacks Iranian Missile Installations Near Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) The US military reported on Tuesday that it targeted Iranian missile sites located near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, employing heavy “deep penetrator” munitions.

"Hours ago, U.S. forces successfully employed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on hardened Iranian missile sites along Iran’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz," a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM) shared on social media said.

“The Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles in these sites posed a risk to international shipping in the strait,” the statement added.

Iranian authorities have not issued any immediate response regarding the strikes.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial global energy passage, carrying a large share of the world’s oil shipments. Reports note that the waterway has been a focal point of international energy concerns since Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared it closed to most vessels in retaliation for US-Israeli operations that began on February 28.
